Thanks for the input

Gents,
Thanks for the great advice. I've got a hat, sunglasses, pee bottle,GPS. Thanks, Blade for the web site addresses. ( I got my first 40 hrs training in 1971 at Oakland, Ca North field, so radio and traffic don't scare me much.) Great advice, Mark, on altitude, planning NOT to use controlled airports, 65mph approach speed, flap use, etc. Dick, thanks for the info on airports in Mississippi. I'll let you know when I'll be coming through.
This will be a grand adventure. I may continue to pick your collective brains prior to "D-day."
Speaking of D-day, June 6 marked the date I returned from Vietnam 42 years ago, after spending 26 months there. Looking back, I now realize that I could have picked a much better vacation spot. Some of the natives were quite rude. But that's another story.....
Again, thank you all.

Hi John,

How's the trip planning going? I've checked out several airports here in the Jackson, MS vicinity and M16, John Bell Williams Airport in Raymond, MS, would be my choice. It has 24-hour self-fueling and it's outside the Class C and Class D airspace for KJAN and KHKS respectively.

The only problem is that it's a bit isolated from motels if this was going to be an overnight stop. The better choice for overnight would be KMBO, Bruce Campbell Airport, which has attended fueling only, from 7a-6p daily. It has a 1700' ASL ceiling above it for the outer ring of KJAN's Class C. The field elevation is 326' ASL.

If you do plan an overnight here, let me know. I could pick you up after 5pm Mon-Sat, anytime Sun.

There's a great grass strip NE of town, Harrell Field Airport,Pisgah, MS, which had a fly-in of about 50 planes last Saturday. I couldn't get there until about 6 pm, by which time the last of the visiting planes were just taking off, and the locals were tired of flying. I was told about a Titan on the field, but it was locked in a hangar and hadn't flown that day. The fly-in was a USUA event, but apparently mostly certificated experimentals and factory-built GA. There was even a T6 that flew in. Several planes came from Alabama, Louisiana and Arkansas.

There's no fuel there, but if you were interested in that as a destination for a Saturday or Sunday arrival, I could get you the phone number of the owner and maybe you could make some arrangements.
