Sealing door gaps

I have been brainstorming about closing the gap near the front of the door where the door frame and hinge meet ( 3" back )  Sunday it was very cold and my temporary solution was duct tape however a velcro strip rivited to the door frame and pulled inward and tucked in might provide a better solution.Another thought was a small section of piano hinge 1.5" that I could pivot down and close the 1/2" gap   What do the engineering minds think ?     Carl with JT2 Gull
