Headset recommendations
Gents,
What headset are you flying with and are satisfied with it's performance? I wear hearing aids and have been told that an ANR headset would be a better choice than a non-ANR. My plan is to do lots of long cross countries, so long term comfort is one goal.
Also, do you think the IPAD2 in the cockpit is overkill for a Gull 2000? Looks pretty cool to me.
Thanks for your thoughts up front.
John

Re: Headset recommendations
I use my 25year old Dave Clarks. I flew with a guy in his C-175 a few months ago, and he had Bose ANR's. It was so quiet, even though the engine was spooled up to 3200rpm (the C-175 is gear reduced to the prop). As far as an i-Pad 2, I think that it is too big. For the same money, get the IFly700 GPS. It just rocks, and has the "drag the course line" feature, and will be adding the XM Weather soon.

Re: Headset recommendations
Folks,
I settled on the Telex Stratus 50D ANR in my very noisy Luscombe. Had a Bose X but sold it (could not cut it). I also have a Sennheiser ANR that is pretty good but the foam ear seals on the Telex are great.
I think an IPad would be great in the cockpit. One app that I heard about is Wing X.

Re: Headset recommendations
With respecto to noise reduction and sound quality, I prefer the Zulus
I have tried David Clark, Bose, Anheiser and Zulu while flying, and Telex at
air shows
Can't tell you about which is more comfortable, but I suspect that would be
the Bose

Re: Headset recommendations
Hi John
I am not up on the right headset for hearing ads but i think the Ipad would
make a great set up for the Gull. I have an Ipad 1 and am working an a way
to mount it.
Happy Flying

Re: Headset recommendations
I have a set of David Clark headsets. After an hour I found the sound
pressure mounting in my ears to be painful.
The David Clarks were ok in a Cessna but in our planes its brutal.
I found the common denominator in all of the groups I belong to said that the Telex 50Ds are the best at noise cancellation. Some one said that aircraft spruce would let you try them in your airplane before you buy.
Its a lot of money, I paid $750 at aircraft spruce. I have no regrets and I won't go deaf.

Re: Headset recommendations
Hi Mark
Would this take the place of your glass cockpit?
Fred
The Ram mounts are really good products.

Hi Fred
I have standard David Clark head sets that are 25 years old. They work well
but I call them the 1 hr headsets. i don't need a timer, after exactly 1
hr my head hurts from the clamping and the top f my head hurts from the
pressure on top. That's why I like the Electric plane, no headsets necessary.
You may also consider the HKS and insulation in the cockpit.
I Fly all day, 10 hrs plus and take off the head set after the first hr in
my Odyssey with the HKS but I have it packed full of camping gear and that
really helps. On of my costumers went to wal mart and bought cheep pillows
and packed the aft part of the luggage compartment with them and raves
about how quiet it is.
In the ANR world they say pasivate than activate, or do all you can to make
it quieter first than use active noise canceling if necessary, often after
that it is not.

Yes, it could, assuming that you has solid state giros and not depending on
the level function of the Ipad that will be fooled by the artificial
gravity vectors of a coordinated turn.

Re: Headset recommendations
I am saving up for the HKS but who knows by the time I am ready to buy the HKS an electric would be the thing.
I am going to explore some sound deadening technics.
