Just a headsup to make sure you check your hinge pins during preflight. My flying buddy with a J1 just had his left flap come off in flight. It looks like the outboard hinge pin came out (probably over a period of time}
then the flap ripped off and went through the prop. Lucky he was 1000 ft agl so he just landed in a farmers field. He called me and another buddy and we mounted a rescue mission.

This should have been noticed in a pre-flight inspection. I check these
every time.

Re: Check your flap and aileron hinge pins
Oh yeah, my buddy Sal had his flap and aileron come off in two different
flights, Luckily he was right at the runway, and landed the J1 quickly and
without any issues, The pins were not secured properly, and the the plane
was still quite controllable, even with the flap going through the
propeller. Lucky boy though.
