Anyone have a kit or flying Odyssey for sale? I'm selling my thundergull J so I can purchase a 2 place odyssey to teach my son to fly this spring.

Re: wanted odyssey kit or flying
It is a very nice thundergull J. It is listed on barnstormers for $ 8,500 without motor and prop. $ 12,500 ready to fly with a generac with a redrive. I have put on 13 hours on the plane with generac and it performs well. It is not as fast as my rotax 503 thundergull i owned back int he late 90's. the plane flys 97 mph, climbs 500fpm and uses a little over 2 gallons an hour. I would like to keep the motor and prop, but would sell the complete plane. I would like to purchase an Odyssey to teach my son to fly this spring. call me at 317-590-5001 if your interested in this nice flying thundergull. thanks dave

Thats a very nice looking "J" Should sell fast!! I would also like to find a new or unfinished odyssey kit.... I contacted Mark twice last fall about buying one and still haven't heard from him. He's a busy guy. If i dont find one before will try again next fall.

Re: wanted odyssey kit or flying
Dave, what did you use for a redrive? We've done a 28hp Briggs & Stratton, and a 40hp Kohler, both with Rotax 'B' boxes. In both cases, we had to have a tapered sleeve made to adapt the crankshaft to the gearbox, as well as an aluminum plate. The 28hp flew a Kolb Firestar sort of ok, and the 40hp Kohler was marginal on a Titan 1, with only about 80mph available. The 503 is really a good engine for our single seaters.

Re: wanted odyssey kit or flying
I have 2 different belt redrives. One is from Valley Engineer and the other is a Falcon PPC redrive. they both work fine, but I like the falcon v belt drive a little better. We dyno tested the generac at 41hp 3800rpms. I think you could increase the HP with two carbs. The 1.8 to 1 redrive seems to work the best and it pushes the plane well. I tried a 68" GSC prop and 3 blade Aerolux 71" prop. they both work fine. I just wanted to try a generac with redrive and pleased with the performance. I would like to keep the motor and just sell the plane for $ 8,500. I agree the rotax 503 is the perfect motor for the single site thundergulls. The one I had years ago with the 503 would go 110mph with no problem.
