small after muffler

Post by zadwit »

Two of my Rotax503s have these small after mufflers installed after the big muffler. I am thinkingabout chopping them off.Do they rob power from the engine>? They are a little bit quieter but not by much...plus Id get rid of a few pounds......ANyway advice???????

It is always easy to ignore how the public sees us but, they can't ignore the noise we make. It is possible that your after muffler is worn out and needs to be replaced.

I think my muffler Muffler is just fine, I was just curious if it caused a reduction in Horsepower. I'll leave it on there it does make the engine quieter and I believe in keeping it as quiet as I can really. I know there's lots of people on the ground that hate airplanes and we don't need any more

The after muffler only causes a small reduction of power if you don't lean out the main jet to balance the change in breathing that the engine.

I test flew my Ridge Runner 1 with 503 DCDI, 2.58 to gearbox, 2 blade warp drive prop pitch about 12.
Full throttle straight and level 6000 rpm saw 95 mph but the windows were rattleing and all.
5000rpm showed 70 and 5500 showed 75. EGTs were around 980(2500 msl and +60(f).
Cht, #1 400 #2 350. I'm thinking the prop is too flat...

Anyway I have one of the gull 2000 with 20 ft wing and 503 DCDI ready to fly. It has 400 hours and a 3 blade IVO ultralight prop on it now. I also have a 3 blade 66" diameter warp drive for it as well. IT has a "C" box 3 to 1 ratio. I just want to fly it around the airport to get used to it.

I have a 3 Gull 2000 with a 24 ft wing for sale however I am seriously considering pulling all adds on it.
I have an HKS for it and the wing cleaned cleaned up nice, the plane is nice and light and all stock. Needs a bit of work on the brakes is all, everything else is fine. I think Ill just keep it.

Here is my question: What is the best prop for a HKS 700E engine on a Gull 2000 24 ft wing???

Also what is best prop for a Gull 2000 with ROtax 503 DCDI C box 3 to 1????
