new portable hangar for Gull 2 K

Post by zadwit »

I just got home with a new 25 ft long trailer, 8.5 wide, 18" extra height.
Photos are in the gallery. The gull goes in easily and the 20ft wing fits well along the side wall, a 24 ft wing will go in and if the trailer were ordered a few feet longer the 28ft wing would go in.
The ramp angle is fairly flat and the tail touches just as the main wheels are on the ramp door.
I think the cost was $8800. Towed with a duramax at 60mph got 15mpg, 55mph into the 20 mph winds.
Trailer has 10,000 axles so a car can be hauled in it as well or used for moving...

Mark B.s trailer is much simpler and cheaper! but I wanted protection from the weather....

Mark showed me the trailer on his way home - impressive! Very professional,
with full plywood liner, and a really nice ramp. I wonder if it would get
flipped by a gust - tie it down when stationary?

Yes if I left it out in the open like at an airport, I definitely would tie it down. Too much flat plate area exposed to the wind.

maybe build a bigger carport with curves someday, touchwood.

(drove through a cyclone once, way to cape canaveral, cleared it in ~10 minutes at <10mph, quite a sway even for a chevy lumina. back in office, boss told me of another storm event, he went into a diner, came out and saw his car dimpled all over, normal midwest hailstorm, hail bigger than a golfball, nearly the size of an orange. he was a geologist in the northern rockies earlier.)

cheers,
