Our wafer chucks are cooled by coolant from an external temp control unit.
For most of our customers, we have to be able to test at -40 to +200°C.
Works well, but pretty elaborate.

Thank you, Martin; that stage needs funding after a seeds sprouts and spends a while in a nursery. Then there would be dust and humidity to design and test for; wonder what kind of handbook teaches such things in today's world.

The tesla chucks are an engineering marvel, Martin. How much gold goes into one? There's a temple here with untold treasures, like barrels of rice made of golds and gold ropes that weigh over 2.5kg

Is it manufactured in house too? Wonder what a micro EDM machine costs or a subcontract for something similar in size

Felt remarkable, like unorchestrated magic, finding you in a business like this and the kind of devices that go into a fab, when I've been thinking about micro meter mechanics in other fields for over a month

We use gold plating on many of our products, and our scrap bins do indeed
look like treasure chests. But the plating is usually very thin, on the
order of 30 micro-inches ≈0.8µm, and does not add a lot of cost (still, we
reclaim all we can). The probes that touch on the power devices to measure
300A or 10kV are pure tungsten. They are made by wire-EDM and cost us about
$100 each. We have a prototype shop, but all our production parts are made
by outside shops, usually local - helps to sit in the middle of what we
call "silicon forest" (Portland, Oregon area). The Tesla and other probe
stations were designed here but are now made in Germany, by a former
competitor whom we acquired.
