more hangar on wheels

Post by zadwit »

I been trying to find and fix the water leaks in the roof every time it rains. I got the 24ft wing off the trailer with the help of local kids and I build a 4x8 table 30" high covered with carpet and sheets of ridged foam to keep the weight off the flap bell cranks and the aileron push pull tube that goes up in the wing. I did not do a ver good job on the wheel attachments and first time I pushed it out side they failed so I drug it back in and worked on it all day and glued and braced the daylights out of it.
When I went to put the gull in the trailer the other day I ran into a problem, the nose wheel starts up the ramp and it don't go very far before the tail hits the ground hard. I have these 2 twelve foot longx12" wide ramps I made for another plane and so used them and it worked fine, no more tail dragging.
Later I swaped the plane out of the trailer and put the wing in. Ill in close some photos of all this. I think there is room to suspend the wing from the top and put the fuselage underneath. Another option is hang the wing on the side wall with the trailing edge up and tilted towards the middle, there is lots of room to do this...I think this is my preferred method.
I built this trailer for my Ridgerunner 1 and it fits in fine with all kinds of room. And if I ever decide to move again, it will come in handy.
I mounted a pulley at the front inside of the trailer and use a rope to pull on the plane or the wing table and push at that same time. I have a small 12 volt winch and I think I will put it in there soon.

I think if you plan to trailer the wing sitting on its nose, you really
should get a hold of a couple of the styrofoam cradles Mark B makes. I made
a couple clamshell-type wing brackets but incorporated the cradles to
distribute the weight when sitting on the nose.

Preferred transport orientation would be horizontal (like when flying), and
two flat supports with some foam should do it. You may want to utilize the
wing mounting straps in some way to immobilize the wing for transport.

On my wing, I leave the motor shroud in place, which requires a bit more
clearance under the roof. Leaving the shroud installed may not be possible
in your case.

(I'll look for photos of my "brow" fairing installation tonight).

If I ever trailer the plane I will likely hang the wing on the side wall and I will either buy or make some foam cradles like Mark B. Has.

My main problem is without the eye, brow fairing, I am afraid to rivet the windshield and side windows in place.

Mark B. said there are 2 thin strips of.016 “ Aluminum that hold the fairing and that is should not be attached to the wing. So without the fairing I don’t know how much to allow for in mounting the 2 strips of metal…

IN the Joe Ruel photo you can see he had the fairing but must have lost it. I sent him a couple of msgs about it but no reply.

In the I tlooksto me like the top of the windscreen rairing is riveted to the top of the windscreen. According to Mark B. it is supposed to slide in between two thin pieces of.016Ф aluminum and I guess float. He said it is notto be attached to thewing УDФ cell area which makes sense to me.. Anyway I need help in this area. I could make a template from paper and try to make one from Aluminum but I would rather buy one already made ..If earthstar has one for sale.e p

When I stop to make parts it slows me way down because I am in the dark a lotЕ..hoping it comes out OK.
