Re: misty
Oh Cool, Sir; heavy rains, will ground plane at a healthy distance
maybe am just imagining it, but the photo seems to say so much more.. It looks like a newer redesigned version with aerodynamic enhancements from major CFD flow simulations; air brakes i seen on a sukhoi, those are above the fuselage, behind the canopy, 10x larger with a big hydraulic piston to push it up, along with drag chute in the back
(a) this cap shaped one seems to be more like a wiper less windshield wiper system, no more insect splats or streaks of raindrops aggregating or something, maybe it create a turbulent air bubble above and just ahead of the canopy, something that could even deflect any pebbles or debris while on the ground at the angles where the canopy could take a direct hit, at other angles the pebble or hail would just glance off; (b) the extra large fairing around the canopy seems to be a way to reduce all the airflow noise and turbulent air getting inside; (c) still don't get what the knobs do; (d) the rudder seems to be unusually thin, while being heavily reinforced at the base where the air flow has already long gone turblent, maybe that reduces drag appreciably in a rear jet engine, rather than midship prop like the Gulls..

Re: misty
Hi Kess
I fly a Titan Tornado SS and here is what I did to seal the metal front
door hinge . First I used JB weld and a tooth pick to fill the centers
of the rivets, I found that the anvil would fall out occasionally
letting air and rain in. Just fill the hole and let the JB weld set but
do not wait until it's completely cured then wipe the head with fine
sand paper for a smooth contour. Next I used "P" strip installation
which you can buy from Wicks, ACS and even ACE and place it along the
down tube to block the openings made by the hinge. I don't fly in the
rain often but I do fly in the cold and this seems to stop all the air
from coming in.
I hope this helps your friend with his rain problem.

Re: misty
From my son-in-law who does the avionics on F-16's... "The four fins? We call those bird shredders. They are an upgrade radar threat warning package that adds 4 antennas to the front of the jet and makes it so they know exactly where the enemy/enemy missile/ or anything using RF targetings exact location."

aah, the living god of magnetrons dispels the mist. wish my father in law to be would speak about moi like that one day... One of these years, in the same timezone or close, i sure hope for a chance to persuade the god in person to mentor/buddy avionics for the gull, gullsense; a reasonable version of the Boeing pitch level indicator PFD with a small laser range finder lookin' strait down
