The bainite paper talks about 7% UTS (ultimate tensile strength) and 30% greater elongation than expensive advanced high strength steels for autos. sounds quite different from what was mentioned in the Forbes article.
As a material properties newbie, sounds ductile enough; for all I know, maybe the frame could be well over half as light, given it's thrice as strong as chromoly

Another factor for the discussion, is that even given that the material is stronger as indicated, it says that the area affected by the heat of the weld is not stronger unless you take the entire assembly and do the magic bainite heat treat on it, so not sure it really helps all that much…

the frame is so light! Wonder one of these days, if we could save 9.7 # of the weight with titanium bicycle tubes, at a reasonable price point
how much do the other components weigh? Seems like every new commercial megaplane comes out with major material R&D; like even aluminium alloys, resins keep getting lighter and stronger

Titanium would save 3.7 lb and cost $887 more. If I had it made in Russia.
That's $239.72 per lb saved.
I don't Speak Russian so I would have a hard time with quality control.
There are hidden factors that control weight savings. Like stiffness ratios that require larger dia tubing in certain places. Titanium is more flexible than 4130 steel.
