Re: forward swept wing

Post by rahulchoudhary73 »

Hi Mark,

Did you try out forward swept wings?

wonder it could reduce the stall speed by another 5mph (already at 37mph in zero wind), looks very distinguished too.

The Let-13 Blanik glider is a six decades old and stable design, can land at 34mph at 10 degree flap (37mph without flap). It's flaps seem to be thrice the size of the gull's flaps. The tapering wing may reduce a fair amount of weight. I especially like the rudder, feels less draggy than an aft swept rudder. Seems like up to 15 degrees of forward wing sweep can be handled with metal constructions. The czaw parrot is another recent one.

it's just words for me yet, but there must be some advantage for pilot placement with a slightly forward centre of gravity (or a wider range for the aerodynamic centre?). there seems to be some decent wash-in of the airflow towards the fuselage, which means more air towards the prop and smaller tip vortexes

Thanks,
Rahul
