Whats That?
I was going through some thundergull videos on you tube and came across one that says its a thunder gull but looks sorta the same but had struts and a different tail. Mark is that one of your early designs?
Go to you tube and search Thunder Gull
it also had a handle of kaydotpixy16
It was for sale and the guy pull starts it from inside the cockpit.
Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred
That is not a Thundergull, There are some parts of a Thundergull in it but
it is not airworthy at all. you see were he put the horizontal tail? I hope
no one gets hurt in this thing.
And I wish he would stop saying it is a Thundergull!
Happy flying

I wasn't sure so I thought I would ask. It looks like Frankensteins Bride.
I remember a while back I came across a guy who also said he had two Thunder Gulls for sale, one with floats both incomplete and you told me they were not Gulls either. I guess they are trying to cash in on your Name with their junk.
Too bad, and you are right. Some unsuspecting buyer could try to fly one of these things and get hurt or worse.

Re: Whats That?
I think a local pilot bought this "project". He is an aircraft mechanic and is intending to make a 2 place J2 out of this mess.
He will be building it back to original. We went flying together
on Sunday {he has another plane that he rebuilt} and he was looking at my Gull 2000 and my buddies J model to see how much work is ahead of him.
I guess the owner died and his wife sold everything off. He said he got 2 fuselages, the one you see and another partial J2 as well as a 22 ft. D cell and lots of parts. The guys wife said he was trying to make it small enough to transport instead of having a hanger.
It is a good thing he never tried to fly it.
Mike
If it ain't broke it doesn't mean you can't try to fix it...

Re: Whats That?
Yup, before I bought my Gull here, I sent Mark pictures of those same supposedly Gulls in the Portalnd area. The owner had reduced the price to $3500, but the only thing of value were the floats to re-sell. The airplane carcasses were just junk, and a mish-mash of other plane parts.

Re: Whats That?
These planes are now in the hands of a local A & P who will be rebuilding back to original. He did a real good job on the wrecked
Sky Raider copy that he is flying now.

Re: Whats That?
Bravo, wish i could do that. next best thing on the learning curve with building one afresh, these planes must fatigue a lot less than automobiles. more satisfying in a sense
btw, why not glue the windows too instead of rivets? there are these industrial glues used in the london eye and things that take upto one and half tonnes of stress.

Re: Whats That?
Oooooh, glue is not good if you have to replace the windows. Much easier to drill out rivets.

Re: Whats That?
yea, car windshields are so flush, maybe the side windows could be replaced together with the sidings and the rivet heads in front covered up like the ones on the bottom of the fuselage
wondered about Mr. Strojnik's S4 recently, the almost bicycle wheel configuration (with a little side wheel) instead of the tricycle. +10mph in there, ought to be easier to retract too. His son Ales, made a single S5 later that still flies but no pictures.
