The excitment never ends!

Post by swl0609 »

Gents,
Update on quest for sport pilot rating and bringing home my new Gull 2000.
Flying has been going very well. Less than 6 hours practice time to sharpen my rusty skills.
Then, Monday around midnight, I woke up with chest pains. Off to the ER and an ambulance trip to the main hospital. After taking a look at my heart the next day, the doctors scheduled me for bypass surgery this coming Monday. Plavix is still in my system that needs flushing out.
The doc told me to "go home and don't do anything but relax." I protested that I had already paid for my Sport Pilot written test and would be damned if I'd miss it just cause of my heart situation. He looked at me with great pity, thinking, I'm sure , that a brain transplant would be a major help for me too, if it were only available.
I got a 93.
A friend of mine is going to go to Texas to fly back my bird. He's a high time private pilot and a level headed aviator.
With all the pleasure I've gotten from being associated with this group on line, I can hardly stand the thought of meeing you all face to face some day. May need that old heart doctor again!
Safe flying, one and all.

Hi John
That sucks. Good thing you didn't have an attack in the air. (That would have affected your resale value! JUST KIdding)
Hope the surgery goes well and you are up and around soon.
Just a thought. Make sure your doctor gives you a high TBO time on your rebuilt ticker.

PS don't know whats got into me lately with the humour, guess I am excited about leaving for Oshkosh on Saturday!

Hi John,

I look forward to that face-to-face meeting down the road. Maybe Oshkosh 2012. Great going on the LSP written. Good luck Monday. It'll be nice to have the Gull waiting for you when you're ready to go out and keep the engine lubed with taxi tests while you wait for your doctor's okay. With your drivers license as medical I'd think you're good to fly as soon as you're good to drive. But maybe that's pushing it a little.

John,
Welcome to the Gull Gang. That's the beauty of the Sport License, all you have to do for the medical is to posess a valid drivers license. They figure if your safe enough for a hiway, then your good to go for the sky for daytime flight. Just remember to keep your speed up when landing for smooth touchdowns. I love my Gull!
