Removing door on Odyssey?

Post by wsweidemann »

I am asking what the procedure is to temporarily remove a door for photography on a Odyssey? I think in my case I would need to first drill out a couple of rivets in the lower part of the piano hinge, to expose the bottom end of the hinge pin. Then, find a way to grab onto the pin (or drive it towards the bottom/front). Once the hinge pin is out (by drawing it out the front/bottom), remove the door. Re-attach the door by putting a hinge pin back in. Where could I get my hands on a piano wire or other suitable wire pin on which to fashion a pin with a handle? The above method is the imagined technique. I'm lookin for advice from someone who has actually done it. Thanks much, Skot Odyssey N159BS, HKS

Hi Skot
We put the door on with a hinge pin that is 3/4 inch longer than needed, than bend it 90 degrees 3/4 in in from the end to grab it to pull it out and push it in. Sand the pin and wax it so that it slides in and out easer. Buff the end on both ends and point the straight end so it aligns the hinge.
You might want to bend some of the barrels to Aline them so you can install and remove it more easily.
This is done from the bottom.

Hmmm, very interesting. I went to remove the door on my Gull 2000 for some repairs, found the end buried in caulk and cleaned it and it was straight with no 90. I grabbed it with some pliers and gave it a yank and it broke off flush with the hinge. Oh well, I have have worked around it and it doesn’t matter anymore that the door is non-removable for a while.
