New to Group
I'm Jim.
I fly a ThunderGill J, which I built in 1994. It has a Rotax 447
engine.
I fly to as many breakfasts, overnights, and coffee clatches as
time and weather permit. Really enjoy flying in the clear, open
country of Eastern Washington State.

Re: New to Group
I haven't been up to Eastern Washington State area, but I'd like to
do a trip along the northern part of the states sometime up into that
area and down into Oregon and back around down through the Monument
Valley area. I have heard a lot of good stories about the flying out
there. Right now that may be just dreaming for the moment. I have,
however, been able to do the southern states. I've got the Southeast
pretty well down pat now,(I live in N Florida), but was able to make
a California to Florida trip last Jan-Fed in my single place Gull
2k. It turned out to be a fun trip. I think I put the story of that
trip on here - it might be in the archives someplace (Probably early
Feb timeframe or so)
In June I will be going up to the Washington DC area and will be
flying up the Appalachians (Smokies to the Shennandoahs). I was
originally going out to Texas to the Texoma Fly-in (George on this
list is part of the group putting on that fly-in) which I hear is
pretty nice, but it looks like I have a family reunion to go to. I
was going to stop in that fly-in and then go south to San Antonio to
my Dad's place. Guess this will be next years trip for me. I can't
do to many real long distance trips like these since I need time off
to do them so the really really long distance stuff is limited for me.
Like you I try to make several of the local fly-ins and especially to
the free munchy get-togethers as well, although they usually do get a
donation out of me. The Gull is a nice flying bird and a real
pleasure for me to fly and importantly it is also not real hard on my
body.
Take care

Re: New to Group
Jim,
I hear ya...maybe next year. Did I tell you about my flight out to Texoma
last year....:-)
I left early afternoon on Thursday figuring to get a good parking spot for
the bird. My wife followed with an RV for gettin the beauty rest that I so
desperately need...:-) I figured...Cool, I'll be the first Gull/Titan to
show up. I get close and I can see a couple of aircraft had already beatne
me there. No problem they're in the tiedown area next to the FBO. I get into
the pattern and I can see a gull 2k sitting there all pretty. It was Dale
Midland from Aerocountry in North Dallas. Dale was the only other UL there.
A few GAs had come in for a little hangar talk.
Here I thought, I'd be the first gull there. Not only wasn't I the first.
All there was, was gulls...:-) Eventually the other started to show up.....
Would love to see more gulls at the event though. Hope I don't have to put
in a transponder before the next one... :-)

Re: New to Group
George,
I also would like to see a few Gulls at one time in one spot as
well. I think sometimes I must the only one in this neck of the
woods. But I got to admit, I draw some attention when I am the only
one sitting amidst a flock of Titans. :-)) Hopefully next year I
will make it over to Texoma.
By the way, don't you operate out of Propwash? Isn't it just barely
inside the Mode-C veil. You may be able to get permission not to
have to have the transponder & encoder, unless you spend a lot of
time crosiing through the veil. Just a thought.

Re: New to Group
Yeah, we spend quite a bit of time in the outskirts of the veil. Propwash is
just inside the veil. If we go anywhere to the south we tend to stay inside
the veil for quite a while. Same with to the east. Only north and west get
us outside pretty quickly.
Yeah. I'd love to see Mark ramp up production like Titan did. I think people
would like the gull better than the Titan if it didn't take so darn long to
get one from Mark. I've heard of people going to Titan after talking with
Earthstar, just because of the wait time to get a gull.
I'd really love to trade my J2 for an Odyssey. That's the Sport plane I'd
like to own. I just couldn't pass up a good deal on this J2 of mine.
