They do have independent pushrods. The hinge on the flap is on the bottom,
the flap is about two or three inches thick, applying pressure to the flap
in the up position isn't going to flex it upwards without putting undue
stress on the flap hinge. It's less stressful to put a shim in there. At
least that what I think... as always. I could be wrong... :-)

By the way Jay, flexing the other flap up would also cause drag. Drag is not
the issue. There is going to be drag anyway you trim it. Trim always causes
drag. It just normally reduces stick or rudder pressure that would normally
be used to induce the trim condition. It's a comfort thang... :-)
