Re: Nose Gear Struts
My 503 setup came with the Rotax altitude compensating unit. I took it off, run just straight jets, and get a consistent 4 gallons per hour with nice EGT's. I have the in-flight adjustable IVO as well.

Yeah, that is a nice setup. My understanding is they stopped making them :(

Re: Nose Gear Struts
Ooooh, gotta love those in-flight Ivo's. What a major difference over a
fixed pitch. I'm getting about 125 hours out of the motor gearbox. Ivo
rebuilds it for $45.00 last time, and about $90 the first time. Still is the
best way to climb strong then coarsen for fast cruise and low rpm's. The 503
still loves the Earthstar airframe, and is probably one of the best
applications of that engine, in the single seaters, it get's to loaf and
last a longer life than draggy old 2-seat training ultralights, (not Gulls).

Re: Nose Gear Struts
I was thinking of the altitude adjustment for the carbs. I'd rather have
control of my EGTs, anyway, but I have a 4-cycle where seizing the engine
due to high EGTs is not an issue.

Re: Nose Gear Struts
And talking about spot landings, I had a Piper Cherokee or something like
that pull right out on my landing spot when I was on short final. I had made
my radio calls, landing light was on, and I even said over the radio don't
pull out, I'm on short final!. Not even a sorry I missed you, so I side
stepped over the grass and did a go-a-round and made that announcement too.
Ya always gotta be ready for something stupid. What did I learn from that?
The Gull makes easy go-a-rounds, I even out climbed that big hunk.

launchpnt is also testing it's silicon carbide controller with joby jm1 motors; guess close to the one they made for their own ~7kw/kg super motor; Mark ought to check this out, maybe he is in the know already; could trim a few pounds there too

Re: Nose Gear Struts
But it's still battery density and weight reduction that are the current
limits. A gallon (litre) of gasoline has so much more energy than anything
around right now, and with cheap oil, the electric market has slowed again.

Re: Nose Gear Struts
Don't forget, an internal combustion engine can only use between 8% for 2cycle engines and 15% for 4 stroke cycle engines. Due to there efficiency, or lack there of. That is often forgotten by the petrochemicalists.
The Zero electric power system has a total efficiency of about 90%.
