Newbie with Gull2000 Rotax503 DCDI oil injection
Intro to newbie. I am Tommy and been on this group since end of April 2015. I am in process of buying Walker's Gull2000 N5119D. A little background: I am a L.S. student pilot and cannot fly the Gull right this day. I am working on that. Further, this was a grandfathered airplane into E-LSA (circa 2010 rule) and it appears to have been built by Mark Bierle (has a fixed trim tab on the rudder.) I am sure to have questions as I go. I have been successful in finding Mark Bierle's comments on use of Champion 2-cycle oil in the Rotax 503 (which I have) with oil injection. Walker was using that and I have one gallon of his supply in an unopened gallon plastic jug. Since this is single seat what ideas are there for me to get some "flight training" for familiarization? Q2: Walker Gull2000 N5119D has three flap positions and then a 4th position (no notch) in which the flaps are about 90deg down: does anyone use this position for anything? BTW, I attended Oshkosh 2013 and saw Mark's eGull up close and try to follow developments in the community. My location is Virginia. And I plan to be at Oshkosh 2015.

Hi Tommy
The 90 degree position for the flaps is for engine maintainance.
If you used 90 degrees in flight you come down like a rock and leave a dent in the ground.
If you don't want to jump on an airliner to come out here for flight lessens, the next best thing is a Cessna 152 or 172.

Save your questions and look for Mark at Oshkosh, since he and Mike plan to be there with the eGull. Both these guys are incredibly helpful and generous with their knowledge and advice.

And a Cessna 150, which is a 152 with a Continental 100 hp and airspeed in mph, instead of the 108 hp Lycoming and airspeed in knots. I use a 150 for my BFR’s as that is the available 2-seater around here. Very similar to the Cessna’s in airspeeds and flight picture except that our planes don’t float as long and airspeed has to be held all the way to the flair. You love the flight feel, nimble but solid. And yes, the 4 flap position we use to walk up close to the engine for service, not for flight use.
