Navigating the Odyssey with my ipad

I've been using my ipad2 with the ForeFlight app and it seems to work very well. If anyone is interested in seeing what it's like I have attached a link below from a flight I just took with it.

I just use my leather case that has a nice adjustable tilt position. They sell knee pads for the iPad. I have Verizon 3G and I can download sectionals so when I'm flying all I need is the iPads gps. I was instructing yesterday and while at 3000 ft I went to the Internet and brought up usairnet.com, the site came up quick accessing with 3G, tough we do have very good 3G here. With a swipe of the finger I can bring up animated weather radar, file a flight plan, airport information, winds aloft and much more info, all without being complicated. Touch a location or airport on the sectional then touch direct and you will get eta with winds aloft already calculated for you. The foreflight app allows you to enter your airplanes info and airspeed which it uses for calculations. Last night I flew a 30 minute flight back home from another airport and the app only adjusted the original eta down 1 minute, it took 29 minutes.
Foreflight allows one subscriber to use the app on two devices so I also have it on my iPhone as my backup.

I'm getting close to getting the same setup. Do you use the IPad's GPS, or do you use one of those externals that links w/Bluetooth?

I use an iphone with moving map application (iphone has built-in gps). I
like "skycharts pro". It's cheap ($20) and has free chart updates. There
are others to choose from that have more functionality but they are more
expensive and some charge for updates which makes them much more expensive
in the long run.

In addition to an old Garmin 196, I'm using my IPhone too, with AirWX. It has sectionals in additional to weather.

My iPad seems to work fine with just the built in GPS, I always have plenty of satelites.
