In-flight refueling auxiliary tank

Post by gregstertheflyer »

Hi,
In response to Fred's request for information on my in-flight refueling auxiliary tank, I've posted some pictures in my album, Greg's Odyssey, for anyone who might lilke to try this at home.
I used a 20 litre container which I got from the shop where I work.  I use a 12 volt electric fuel pump to transfer the fuel.  This pump does not need to be primed.  I drilled the cap and installed the pick-up hose through this hole and weighted the end with two large nuts.

I also found a duck-bill air vent on a gas cap for a chainsaw and installed it in the cap, like a rubber grommet.  This vent allows the air to go in when pumping and does not allow the fuel to splash out and doesn't have to be opened manually. I used it several times and it works really well.

Thanks Greg
I plan to make a similar set up for my JT2 for longer trips.
Its very clever and simple.
Fred
P.S. Do you have your HKS installed yet? Then maybe you won't need the extra gas.
