I have a set of David Clark headsets. After an hour I found the sound pressure mounting in my ears. I feel there has to be quieter headset available.The David Clarks were ok in a Cessna but in our planes its brutal. I can only stand an hour before my ears hurt. On another site the Telex 50Ds was hailed as the best noise cancelling ones out there.
They were about $700.00 at aircraft spruce . OUCH#
But you know what they are worth every cent. They really cancel the noise well.No more discomfort after an hour of flying.
Thought I would pass this advice on to you guys.
Used ones come up from time to time. If my wife likes flying I will have to now get her a set. OUCH# again!

I find the noise attenuation of my DC headset acceptable. Which version
do you have? How old are they? You may want to replace the gel ear seals
- I replace mine every 2 or 3 hundred hours. Well worth the $20 for a new
pair.

I have gone through a whole series of headsets and in my present really
noisy aircraft I am using the Telex 50D ANR with good results as well. I had
what I thought was the ultimate headset (the Bose X), but it couldn't cut
it in my Luscombe.

the pressure buildup, had wondered about it from another angle. many
Designers use airvents to keep air flowing through the fuselage, even in
cars. gliders use something called a mandl air extractor..

My David Clarks were brand new. I think they were the 13.5 or something, I forget.
The noise only got to me after an hour, especially when I had my head cocked sideways to look at the view.
I had no trouble selling them to someone at our field.

I heard the same thing about the Bose high end headsets. Good thing too, the Bose was even more expensive.

I have tried quite a few, including David Clark, Telex, Bose and Zulu.
Some times, I have tried 2 different ones on the same flight for comparison
The Zulu works best for me

Yup, I've heard others say the Zulu is the best I haven't tried one yet.

Noise reduction performance changes throughout the frequency spectrum
Sealing is another matter. It varies depending upon many factors
Sensitivity is still another. We are all "built" differently
Lastly, and most important, noise cancelling is paramount, and that too is
related to frequency response
Ergo, try different ones and settle for what you think is best for you,
within your budget
