Gull2000 Anatomy photos
I'm searching fro the right TGull to buy. There is a Gull 2000 with no engine for sale now on Barnstormers for $5k. The seller is the local EAA chapter which sold the engine seperately for liability reasons. I received an email with many photos gloriously documenting the anatomy of the Gull2000. I just posted them in the photos section. They are a fabulous learning opportunity for someone who does not have direct access to a Gull. The weight sans engine is 266 pounds.
I am eager to hear comments from those in the know about the physical condition of this specimen. There is a lot of learning available in these photos. Hopefully these photos stimulate this forum have a robust conversation.
I am especially looking for a JT2, but am on a tight budget, so it may take me a year or two to find the right bird.

That is a bargain if it’s complete less engine. And you have lots of engine choices. The 2000 has a more graceful fuselage and sits on the the nose wheel when the pilot exits, but doesn’t have the rear seat area for a small person or baggage like the JT2. If the plane hasn’t been bent or sloppy workmanship I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Elevator leading edge dents are common on dirt strips. My JT2 had several when I bought it. Makes no difference in performance or control. I eventually fixed them with a dent puller and bondo. A year later I got another one. Still no difference flying.

Uhh.... Take a look at the photo. This is not a leading edge dent. The tip rib is badly bent right behind the leading edge skin. Top fabric is wrinkled. I would not fly it that way, myself.

Sounds like a step on. My hangar partner bought a Titan 1 that had some wrinkling aft of the spar too, and when he opened up the skin he found bent ribs. More likely on JT2’s as they sit on their tail too without the pilot, whereas the 2000 can also pop’s back on it’s tail in windy conditions, and I almost had mine stepped on. I agree, should be trailered if purchased, and not a deal breaker, but a bargaining chip.

Thanks Kess. That seems like a really good insight. Whatever TGull get I will paint the top of the elevator "NO STEP!" and in neon yellow.

Also, in the photos John posted, it looks like serious corrosion at the front of the tail boom tube. Wonder how that happened?

I tried to buy it and they would not even tell me the serial number so i could talk to mark about the ship.I will not play in that sand box.
