Folks,
What is the behavior of the Odyssey in a crosswind? Is there a demonstrated limit?
Thanks, Skot

Re: Crosswinds in Odyssey?
Hi Skot
I have not found the limit of the airplane yet. I believe it is related to
the load. At full gross weight of 1000 LB it would be at least 35 mph but
pilot skill comes in to play I have landed at 40 at 90 degrees and scrubs
the tires but is manageable. I often land across the runway if it is blowing
that hard. keeping in mind that those kind of winds are typically gusty,
unpredictable and turbulent to the extreme.
It is nice to know that you can do it though.
I have ben refining the design over the last 30 years to make it handle
gusty, turbulent winds. And it does it well. this makes me confident of making
long cross countries and being able to handle what ever comes along, with
in reason of cores.
Happy Flying

Having your rudder cables tight to spec makes a big difference. I know from
experience.

Re: Crosswinds in Odyssey?
Excellent, they cross control really well, just like GA aircraft. I cross control with a side slip at times to get to the numbers on the runway if needed, and it is a great way to practice for cross-wind capability.

Re: Crosswinds in Odyssey?
How do you adjust the play of the rudder. I mean what is tight enough?
What is too lose.
Thanks

Re: Crosswinds in Odyssey?
Hi Fred
Lock the rudder pedals by having someone sit in the plane and lock the
pedals with there feet.
Than do the push on the trailing thing with 5 # pressure, if it moves more
than 1/2 in tighten it.
