Condition Inspection Checklist?
Condition Inspection Checklist:
Could anyone share a good set of aircraft specific items to check for on an Odyssey with HKS?
This spring I will be doing a condition inspection with my regular A&P mechanic (who I don't believe is familiar with this aircraft). I would like be sure to examine known points of interest as far as wear & safety.
So far, I have had a few issue with the Hegar wheels & go kart brakes. The screws that hold on the brake drums had "backed out" and started making clicking noises. Luckily I caught it in time to replace a few screws & re-tighten them with Loctite. I also had one return spring break and cause a constant squealing from brakes dragging. After much Internet research I found a Go Kart supplier who happened to have the exact springs. I now have extra springs in my tool bag.
After a flat tire on landing, I replaced the mains with a set of used 6 ply Condor tires with Desser Leak Guard inner tubes. The nose wheel was replaced with an Aero Classic and a Leak Guard inner tube as well.
Thanks much, Skot

Re: Condition Inspection Checklist?
Oh those darn little drum brakes, I had the left wheel lock up during a landing roll-out a couple of years ago. Oh what fun! I was able to work it loose without getting out of the airplane, and when I got back to the hangar and took the wheel off, I found the spring broke, and the brakes must have self locked. I found the replacement springs at Wicks, and also have extra’s, . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . .oh wait, I just converted to hydraulic disc brakes, and the dreaded squeal is gone. Free springs anyone?

Skot, what size Condor tires did you use?

Re: Condition Inspection Checklist?
Riley,
They are 15 X 6.00-6 (same size as what the builder installed, except 6 ply PMA'd aircraft tires). The salvage dealer I bought them from said they were previously on a C172RG. I think they should be robust enough for my Odyssey. The nose wheel tire is a new Aero Classic six ply.

Re: Condition Inspection Checklist?
Thanks, Skot. I have a worn out set of those on mine. I like the shape of them better than the stock Carlisles. They are rounded instead of flat across the tread. They sure are stiff for this weight of plane, though. And I just priced some new ones. Wow! Cheapest I found were $110 each plus shipping. I'd like to find something similar with that rounded shape, only not so stiff and heavy, and much less expensive.

Re: Condition Inspection Checklist?
I use the 4-ply 13-3 X 6, and it’s the right strength and weight for our planes, (even the Titan guys use them).

Re: Condition Inspection Checklist?
That sounds good, Kess. I have found 13 X 6.50 X 6, but never heard of 13 X 3 X 6. Do you know the brand and where you got them? I'm shopping for tires.
