Your 503 should start and run just fine without an external battery. You
just need the battery to crank it fast enough if you don't have a pull
start.

The 503 need a quick spin to start it.
Your motorcycle bat is probably week.
I have hand propped them many times. But not combined with a starter.

FDA calls it activity of water in foods, controlling it below .85 in a product gives exemption from 14 CFR parts 108, 113, 114; flying and eating well seem to have similar codes of fed regulations ;)
