Had a good time at Sun N Fun this year until the Tornado hit.
I was standing in open ground when the big black cloud started coming over the area. I decided to high tail it into one of the main steel buildings so I wouldn't get wet. Then all hell broke loose. The banging from the hail and screaming wind was incredible. It happened in an instant. They had closed the doors so when the hydro went out we were in the dark. Before the storm hit the authorites said we could get in excess of 70 mph winds!
When the storm passed and the doors opened I couldn't believe the devestation I was looking at. The Zenith display was gone! one plane was on its back where their display was laying crumpled in a pool of water. The other 3 or 4 planes were rolled up else where.
The Aircam camp was also destroyed 4 planes piled in heaps.
Even a DC-3 was blown back ramming its tail through another plane.
As lovers of airplanes and anything that flies it was just so sad to walk around the devastation.
The news paper renamed the event "Rain N Pain."
A picture is worth a thousand words so I will post my pictures in a folder called SunNFun2011.
The next day was warm and sunny, perfect weather. The crews must have worked through the night cleaning up.
I had hoped to visit Mark B who flew his soaring Gull in from California. ( He avoided the weather and I hear he made it on saturday)
