Another reason for poor rotation performance

Mark mentioned another issue. A lot of folks don't realize that elevator
(stablilator) is designed to have the fabric covering glued to the ribs to
minimize bow or lift. The same holds true for the alerions and rudder.

If they aren't glued down the material can lift away from the ribs (low
pressure) or be pushed down between the ribs (high pressure) both of which
change the shape of the surface and reduce the lift.

If you alerions rudder or stabilator are not glued as designed talk to Mark
about how to use pop rivets to connect the fabric to the ribs, or you can
re-fabric them.

oh yes, forgot on more thing. Make sure the stabilator stop is set correct
so that you get the full range of motion. I don't remember what that value
is (in degrees). Don't exceed that value w/o a long discussion with Mark
since you don't want to change the stall characteristics of the airplane or
have an elevator stall.

Speaking of recovering, I have that job staring me in the face now, as the previous owner had the airplane painted by an automobile body shop, and the dumb sh--t's sanded through the fabric to the ribs and rivets in some places. The fabric is starting to lift in those areas, and will have to be re-done for the condition inspection that is coming up soon.

Thanks Alan.
I know the previous owner accidentaly stepped
on the elevator and had to fix a rib or two and had it recovered.
I will check it the next time I am out to the hanger.
