Tesla is improving it's range with Panasonic batteries and the Nissan
Leaf says it's next model will increase the range from 84 to 249 miles
The batteries will have more than twice the capacity while bringing weight and cost
down.
Looking ahead ,Lithium -Ion may lose out to Lithium- Sufer,Lithium -Air or
solid state batteries .
So please Santa bring me a 3x -5x battery .Zero motorcycles will put it in
a nice gift wrapped package, Earthstar will fine tune the motor ,battery and
controller and I can have a 3 plus hours of range and never half to deal
with feeding and maintaining Rotax engines
I Still Belive,
Carl
JT2 with fickle Carburated Rotax.

Re: All I want for Christmas
Ho Ho Ho, that magical Golden lithium air battery is most probably in the backpack of the SEAL team (maybe team six) on a ship like USS San Antonio (LPD-17); team lead sure looks like me twin, not blood related, albeit a trained version of moi, with a back built like a rock..
Now, dear Santa, if thee do gift, then gift us a pretty quiet free piston hybrid with silicon carbide power electronics at a nominal cost, along a golden battery like that, with a 1000 mile range; easily portable from the Gull to the car & home too
one may venture, a hybrid still makes sense even with the lightest battery in the world in this century, at least until oil runs out. even if the crude went from over $100 a barrel to ~$65 within this quarter. what do other of us far more experienced mortals think, a penny for your thoughts..
Yes we can, Relive, Belive,
Rahul

Re: All I want for Christmas
Oh Rahul, you so poetically sum it up. People seem to forget that oil is a NON renewable resource, and once it runs out the oil barons will be crying and ISIS and Al-Qaida will run out of money. Meanwhile we in the west will be flying electric Gulls and other assorted electric planes. (yes, I’m dreaming again!)

The long winged white falcon (Elanus Ceruleus) appeared today. barely managed to record it, as the bird looped twice, over a half a mile and back to the very top of the tree in front. wonder if the neat eGull video was made with 700x zoom, zooms make it so harder to keep the sense of distance calibrated..
