Instrument Panel

I got a small info pack from DCC and something concerns me. On the
Thundergull 2000, it looks like the dash (Instrument Panel) is pretty
high... blocking the view of almost half of that huge windshield. Is
that just the angle the photo was taken? Is it something that can be
shortened during construction? I'm a short guy and really don't want
a dash that comes up to my nose. Please let me know if there are any
other 5'5" TG pilots out there. I'd like to know if the dash is a
problem.

Now that I'm back from vacation I plan on visiting DCC, but from what
I understand, they make some of the components, and may not have a
complete TG2000 for me to check out.

Thanks.
Will

Hi Will,

I cannot give you as authoritive answer as some of the other folks on
this list, since I have just ordered a Gull2K kit myself. That being
said, I ordered it with the standard panel, and Leslie has already
sent me the template for it so that I can plan my layout. If you are
going to build the kit yourself, there does not appear to be any
reason that you could not modify the panel to suit your requirements.
One limit that I can see to lowering the panel very much is the
method of climbing in to the Gull2K. You need to get your leg over
the center mounted control stick while keeping your foot below the
lower edge of the panel. If you could work out a way to complete that
manouver with a lower panel, you may be able to lower it some. Of
course, another option would be to raise the seat a bit. I am 5'11'
tall, and my head has about 3" clearance on the only Gull2K that I
have had a opportunity to sit in. Also, the seat has fore and aft
adjustment, so with it adjusted forward you should have a better
angle over the panel.
Sorry for all the guesswork, but I hope it gives you something to
think about?

Hey Will

I haven't a clue what/who "DCC" is, but the panel on the Gull is just
fine. I'm 5'9 and I can see very very well. I have put my GPS up
there as well, which is good for X-countries, but does hinder the
overall front view. I'm looking to move that GPS down and out of the
way for local stuff and short jogs, but haven't so far - I will keep
the option that I have there since it is very convenient on the long
stuff. A shot of my dash is in the photos section. Take out the GPS
and move it down and you have a great view.
