Hi Mark,

Did thou consider a planetary gearhead for the eGull motor(s)?

Maybe one made inhouse. recall a 1:2.78? rotax gearbox and a mention of a possible belt drive, from one forum thread last year. There was also a mention of upping voltage somewhat for a higher rpm, an option you didn't want to touch.

The belt drive Mark developed for the Zero propulsion package seems to hold
up OK. Light-weight, zero maintenance (sealed bearings), and inexpensive.
The vertical offset helps move the motor lower for better aerodynamics and
lower CG. The motor pulley and belt style are carried over from the
motorcycle, so you know they can take a beating. Belt reduction works here
because the electric motor produces no torsion spikes (just a LOT of smooth
torque!).

Air conditioning? Yes, it does get hot in that greenhouse. But for obvious
reasons, we are leaving off anything that does not fit with the
"Ultralight" image, like wheel pants.

Mark would say, fly without the door!

In my case, I am more worried cold temperatures will limit my flying
season. I'm thinking I may install a 12V/200W heater with fan (automotive
aftermarket). Just enough to keep the windshield defrosted and my fingers
flexible.

Martin, that 200W heater may cost you range. In a gas powered plane that wouldn’t work because the alternator only puts out about 165W. Back in the old days, we just wore motorcycle or snowmobile gear.
