Do any of you guys use a higher end radio that works great in our type of planes?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Fred

Fred,
My flying buddies that you met at Sun-n-Fun like the Icom, and I was having good results with my Vertex Standard until it broke yesterday. I found a brand new replacement for $169 from the PilotShop.com, which is about $100 cheaper thatn the Icom. I'm sure it would cost that much to have it serviced. My old one was in the hot sun, in the heat when I applied power again and it never came on. There are no servicable parts inside, so it looks hosed.

Ref: Small Reliable Panel Mounted Radios

IF I was to install a new panel mounted radio today I would consider the Becker of Filser (both German radios). Both have small round faces and do not take up much space. These radios are sold by among others, Airplane Gear. http://www.airplanegear.com/

Though I have a XCOM radio it has a checkered past and I suppose future as well. It has many good features but the quality control was a problem (I am on my third radio which is working well so far).

My 2 Cents. Skot
