Oshkosh is coming up soon, any of you guys going?

Not me this year. I can't get away long enough. My time away this year was "Sun-n-Fun". Mark said that he had about 4 days at home after Arlington to get ready for Oshkosh. He is one flying guy.

I got my plane into the air this week for the first time since my precautionary
landing and trailer ride back to my airport in late April. It performs fine. The
engine wasn't damaged. I experienced momentary fuel starvation episodes due to
air leaking into the fuel line where the hose connected to the draw tube at the
top of the tank. I had pushed the hose too far over the tube, going about a
quarter inch beyond the bend in the tube. And my use of 1/2 inch hose clamps on
3/8 urethane hose was improper.

The symptom was a fairly constant stream of tiny air bubbles in the hose, which
Mark said was my problem. I was reluctant to believe the bubbles were a problem
because they had been there since I installed that hose last fall.  I had put 30
trouble-free hours on the plane since then. However the problem flight in April
was unusual in that I had a passenger for only the third time since I bought the
plane, we were flying higher and we were flying faster (90-95 for an hour) than
my normal practice.

I redid the fuel hose, converting from a parallel pump system to a series pump
system (flows through electric pump first then into Mikuni vaccuum pump). I used
thicker urethane hose from fuel tank to the Mikuni, 1/2" OD x 1/4" ID, which
allowed use of standard worm gear 1/2" hose clamps. From Mikuni to carbs is blue
urethane 3/8"x1/4" with two wraps of safety wire to clamp.

There are no bubbles in the system now.

I took advantage of having the wing off because of trailering to paint bright
yellow trim on the all-white airplane. I'll post pictures.

I will be at the HKS booth flying at the ultralight area. And I will give a
talk at the EAA learning center and the Ultralight area.

Looks to me like Mark and the E-Gull liftoff and climb out just as quickly and steeply as the Just Super Stol.

This morning Brian Carpenter told symposium he expects FAA will eventually reverse decision and allow battery weight to be counted as fuel and not airframe weight in an ultralight. Meanwhile he's in partnership with Quicksilver on an electric glider that avoids the FAA killer ruling.

Wow. Hadn't known this. Lets hope they reverse this soon.
