JT2 wing root fairing

Can I use Lexan, 1/16 or 3/32, for the fairing to cover wing leading edge above the fuselage? I'll be returning soon from my assignment in Mississippi and will be ready for final steps to get my repainted and repaired Gull into the air again.
The extra light from a transparent fairing might make my GPS screen easier to view.
I also want to trim the edge of whatever I use with something to stop abrasion of wing. The old aluminum had duct tape which didn't prevent it from sawing into wing skin.
If Lexan is okay, any special technique to drilling holes in it.
Thanks
