John, Is that the JT2 model with a Rotax 582 and a "V" tail ?
If it is , it is a unique aircraft designed by Mark Beierle for water operations.
I got a chance to fly it back in 2007. It had wheels then and flew great.
I now own a JT2 with a 912ul . The performance and handling would be different, however If I can be of any assisstance to fill in information gaps, let me know
Thanks.
Carl

Hey Carl,

No. Although this acft was supposedly used as an amfib in it's early days.
mine has the standard tail. It does still have the welded brackets for the
floats though.

My acft was born in 1991.

You must have awesome performance with a 912. Mine with the 582 is awesome
in it's own right. but a 912 on the same airframe.wow. Did it always have
the 912.? Or was it added later? Was the w/b affected much with the 912?
Did you have to increase the onboard fuel capacity?

More later,

John

Wow! A Thundergull with a 912!! I can’t even imagine what the take-off must be like. I fly my Gull 2000/503 along side of Titans with the 912, but they are much heavier. In fact the one I fly mostly is 200 lbs heavier with the 80 hp 912, and I can stay right with him in climb and full throttle. Oh, and my Gull is pretty fast as I have done some speed mods that have added about 10 mph more at full throttle speed.
Enjoy your ride!!

The 80 hp 912 can easily weight about the same as a 582 with a c gear box, electric start and double rad set up. The 582 burns more fuel fuel than the 912 and about the same as a 503 depending of course how hard you are running them.
On a recent flying trip with 3 guys that were running 100 hp 912s I was burning similar (usually just slightly less) amounts of fuel in my 503 keeping up with them.

Mike S,

My 582 only has a single radiator setup, but does have the C Gear Box & electric start, and dual carb. Fuel burn on the 582 is surprising though... being higher than a 912... there apparently is a huge difference between 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine systems. I have not flown it enough yet to come up with my own fuel burn numbers... but I do not doubt the numbers I find as has been stated here and elsewhere.

I am still on a major upward learning curve with this plane and engine setup. I had never flown a plane with a rotax engine before... as I just started with LSA not too long ago. All my flight time has been in other larger certified and experimental aircraft.

Blue Skies to All,

John

Yes, wonder what be an equivalent eGull powerplant; can't even imagine the battery weight to go with it.

There's this high end Volta GT Volaire 4seater for some years now, hybrid, very quiet about the generator though; may be a wankel

Yes, the V tail must be pretty cool too, surprised it is yet to show up in the forum albums. wonder what be an equivalent eGull powerplant; can't even imagine the battery weight to go with it.
