Insurance Experiences?

Greetings,

For information about prediction of actual operating costs of a Earthstar Odyssey I just called my current insurance company Avemco for rates.

First the Earthstar Odyssey has full coverage available and is in the "favorable" rate group. This is a plus, since it does not appear to be a high risk airplane (to the insurance company). The Earthstar insurance rate is also about 7.8% more to insure than my factory made Luscombe taildragger.

The variable I have trouble with is that if the plane has a recognized brand such as a ROTAX (apparently 2 stroke or 4 stroke "aircraft engine") it is 9% cheaper to insure than with the HKS. Apparently the HKS is not popular enough to have a significant track record, although this would be my engine of choice.

Go figure.

Hi Scott
Yes the HKS is the engine of choice especially since the operating cost
reduction over the rotax is way more than you will even pay for your insurance
by several times.

For ELSA insurance I am using "Zanette". If you are shopping around you
may want to get a quote from them. I have never made a claim but they
have good customer service when billing time comes around.
