The other future engine will/should be the opposed piston opposed cylinder
Turbo diesel engine which is small ,compact and very fuel efficient. It is called
the OPOC and is being farmed out to china to build .The power to weight is remarkable.
A 50hp engine would weigh 50 pounds and produce 100 ft. pounds of torque which is more than the Rotax 100hp engine. Displacement , if scaling is proportional, would be around 360cc. Fuel burn is projected to be around 25% less than a modern fuel injected TDI
This is the engine for light aircraft (until battery technology catches up.)

Hmmmmm, velly interesting, and seems too good to be true, as diesel's tend to heavier due to higher combustion pressures and power pulses. Can’t wait to see one, meanwhile the paid for 503 soldiers on with about 50-60 hours a year accumulating. Now it’s about a 12 year old engine, and has about 390 hours on it. Inside a cowl, inside a hangar keeps the weather off it too which should make it last a bit longer until battery prices come down.
