Electric Flight And Boeing

There's no doubt in my mind about the future of electric flight going mainstream as Boeing and Cambridge University have shown the practicality of hybrid/electric power systems. They have just shown their practical test flight. When the big players throw money at development concepts things seem to happen quicker. Again my hat's off to Mark in his continuing work to make electric flight affordable and practical for us poor boys with kit and homebuilt airplanes.
I got this latest info from AOPA on-line in my mailbox. Gotta love the information flow these days.

I believe in 1998  , Boeing built and electric 737   with a hydrogen driven generator  on board  and 4 electric driven jets.   It  was  never test flown ( or it wasn't released ) .  I used  50%   of  convention fuel .  It is what got me started in solar / electric flight research         Ed

The Ge / Boeing contract.  changed to the  Boeing  hydrogen fuel cell concept   and now it is called   Boeing  SUGAR volt plane    that saves  70% fuel.
