Black Max Brake Reality Check?

I see that some of you guys have installed Black Max brakes (guessing the BX-1000 system); I see from the message history there is work to do adapting the axle and finding a place for the lever.

Once you dealt with all that, do you LIKE them? And did it save weight or add more weight compared to the stock system?

They aren’t real powerful, but smooth and quiet. The weight is probably similar, as they are light. The lever was a bigger pain, as I had to mount it backwards on the stick due to the curvature that is like a helicopter stick. With stick full back, it doesn’t get me in the crotch, although I’m long legged and have the seat slid almost full back on my Gull 2000. Not sure how that would work out on the “J” series, as the seat is fixed and can’t slide back. Also there is a bit of work to do on the mounting of the caliper. Go to my photo section and you will see all the piece parts I had to fabricate, but now I have a floorboard to put my fee ont, and the squeak is gone.

Although the squeaking (or shrieking) brakes can be a little embarrassing,
it also does a good job of clearing people off the runway.

Or giggling when I used to pass by their hangars with the old squeaky drum brakes.
