As a pilot who flies 2 stroke engines, I practice real dead stick landings every year. That's engine off, not just at idle. And since I don't have electric start, it's always a "real" dead stick landing.


An electric powered aircraft doesn't have an "idle" setting. You can practice real deadstick landings anytime, with no fear that it won't restart !

I do them too occasionally, cuz you just never know. I do it over the airport making radio calls as necessary, and try to put it on the third stripe. The point is I’m practicing spot landings, as a real engine-out may not be near an airport, and it helps to be able to hopefully hit your mark when you need it.

Yes. Spot dead sticks are the whole ball game when your engine quits. The
first real engine problem I had, I was so freaked that I needed 2000' to
land. Doing the real thing really helps.
