gul with a single L, means a rose in persian. the u is pronounced as a shorter ooo in time. also yellow in nordic. why did you leave out an L, Mark? (btw, the word has at least 5+ meanings when used in phrases like a blooming flower; the most wizened is copspeak for many kinds of frivolous and vexatious games people play under the sun, many of which the Law frowns at)

Mr. Bach, now he flies a Searey, fairly heavier than an odyssey. lived through a crash ~3 years back. do wish Mark reaches out to him too, along with Harrison. His second book's inspired by Nevil Shute, (♡ ♡), though i found Somerset Maugham to be more riveting in my teens, there's one about an aircraft engineer who investigates aluminim wing fatigue in extreme cold in a ww2 aircraft. does anyone remember that book?

the wikipedia entry for earthstar thundergull seems to need corrections too. the "first flight" at the top is mentioned as 1987 (thundergull), ought to be 1976 (laughing gull). if one adds up the numbers of units built across models, its barely ~42. in reality it's got to be higher than that.

it's just puzzling how hard must it be for a newbie to find and compare earthstar aircraft on the internet, when it is clearly one of the much better designed ones. looking at others, it's just surprising there are'nt already, many many thousands of earthstars flying.

The sad thing is there are less and less newbies coming around. Back in the early 90's, our ultralight airpark was packed, after 20 airplanes lined up on the ramp (grass}. Roasting hot-dogs and marsh mellows after a full day of flying and landings. The old airpark is a ghost camp now, a few flying parachutes are the current U/L's and a couple of trikes. Us older guys have moved on to faster LSA's, EAB's and general aviation. Also a few have perished along the way. Mark's planes are truly the best bang for the buck, and most guys would rather buy a built one rather than a kit. I also fly Cessna 150's, and the gull is like a baby Cessna, but more efficient.

early '11, took me like 9wks! to find and get enchanted with the gull among over a hundred types. had to go back searching at least thrice, until it seeped in. just so many things that go into choosing a plane. a decade ago, took over dozen paraglider winch flights at a school in a lakebed with an experienced army para platoon that time, with reserve chute ground training, and a downwind landing that made me wonder. later sidestepped the mountain training course alltogether, trikes and the rest with tough safety records. this video actually got me desperately (and patiently) seeking until i found the odyssey (over 19,000', have walked up to places like such for a few months; the last one minute is the best part) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn2-4xvEfwk
