Hi
The JT means J Trainer and is followed by 2 for 2seats and 24 foot wing.
The J is what Jin has, it is a single seater with 20 foot wing.
Like the gull 2000 standard version.

Your rule of thumb is similar or may derived from Fan Affinity Laws used in Ventilation and HVAC calculations. However the affinity law for HP says that the increased HP is proportional to the cube of the volumetric flow rate (cubic feet per minute).

HP2 = HP1 (CFM2/CFM1)^3

However, since the duct size doesn't change, the velocity in feet per minute changes at the same rate as the CFM. So CFM2/CFM1 = FPM2/FPM1.

Therefore HP2 = HP1 (Vel2/Vel1)^3

In this case of air in a duct, if Velocity doubles, HP required will increases 8x.

HP2 = HP1 (2)^3
