Hi Fred

Thanks! that'll be fun. guess i was just splitting hairs to while away the
time until then, both tips being Hoerner's grandkids the relative
improvement maybe miniscule. btw, how many ipads do you see in the field
nowadays - maybe i could tinker around making efis software and learn some
more until then, looking at the few $100 types i've seen so far

Hi Rahul
In my circles I haven't seen any ipads used but it will probably come.

I use my car GPS in my plane. It is a Garmin 360 and if you go into the preferences you can change it to off road (cross country)
So now when I enter a destination it only shows a direct route (as the crow flies) with a car icon on the route.(I have heard that you can down load different vehicles including airplanes)
This also gives me time to destination and distance. So in essence it is now a poor mans aviation GPS. It works great.
I often set the destination to the field I fly out of. So when I wander around I can always see the straight line back to home base and it gives me distance and time.
I do believe many auto GPS units can be set this way.
Try it.

The Odyssey next to my JT2 belongs to Greg Evans. Nice guy. He lives the other sid of Montreal. He flew in for the convention and I think it took him 5 1/2 hours including stops.
He has the same 503 Rotax that I have.
I know that he bought a used HKS that he will be installing this winter.
I am looking forward to seeing it when he flies in for the next convention.

Cool, maybe Gulls with ski's too one of the winters to come - folks with
challengers seem to have a lot of fun with winter flyins in large groups

I use "SkyChartsPro" on my iphone as a moving map aviation gps software.
It is only $20 with free chart updates. The map is the sectional chart
and it also has weather data (TAF and METAR), charts (AFD), etc...
Excellent value at $20.

The only problem is that the GPS antenna on the iphone is poor so I have
to mount it (the phone) at the top of my panel or the satellite
connectivity is flaky. Thats not skycharts fault, I blame Apple.

I think I remember seeing a picture of a guy in Quebec that had ski's on his Thundergull 2000 single seat.

Hi Blade
When I get an iphone the weather map and charts is what I am interested in. So get busy and figure out how to increase the reception for us all.
Thanks

There are products that claim to increase the GPS reception. For example
there is a "tomtom" car kit:

http://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/products/mo ... or-iPhone/

There are also external GPS device(s) that may work better than the
built-in GPS.

http://bad-elf.com/products/gps/

But I have not tried either of these so I can't say if they work well or
not. I would love to hear feedback from somebody who as a proven solution
so I don't waste a bunch of money on one that does not help...

I am not sure if you can connect an external bluetooth GPS to an
iphone/ipad without jailbreaking....anybody know?
