I flew my JT2 off a desert dirt strip with a few rocks up to fist size. The stabilizer did get some nicks and dents over time, but it never affected control, airspeed or anything except my aesthetic sense. The plane has been at that strip (Brian Ranch, CL13) for 16 years now, and had been there for 10 when I bought it. When I painted the all white plane to add a little accent color, I fixed the dents with bondo. Worked great.
