Oh, melting the foam would be really bad, the epoxy would release too.
Most of the chrome powder does need a clear over it but they do make one now that is good by itself.
I did coat a 144 sq inch test panel with single coat chrome and I tried to error on the heavy side when coating. the panel wieghed .287 lbs. after coating it wieghed .295, this is prior to baking. This comes out to .008 lbs per sq ft. Though it's not an option to powder coat with the foam and epoxy in the wings, it does seem to be much lighter than paint. From what I'm told, paint would be closer to .08 per square ft. I'll flex test the panel this week and wiegh it after it's cured.
