how absolutely charming, Martin. Always thought you were many decades younger. This gull build deserves a pretty woman's picture and a name like
"Flying Betsy" or something!
evading mr. flu last couple of days, came across this remarkable motor-generator, "Engiro RE 20-2", 20Kw, 32A, 70lbs!, 1.3 galleons/hr, wankel motor, marked for institutional queries only for now. Maybe Mark could ask. Guess it'll cost five digits easy as of now if at all, given the engine's price that's now commonly available as paragliding motors. it's still awhile to get to hybrid egulls, could be much earlier than waiting for 4hr endurance with next generation batteries. guess it's the car/uav markets that take their own sweet time before things like these become commonly available.

Thanks, Lee and Rahul. Yes, I have been mistaken for Buffalo Bill. I am not
quite 64, but the grey hair probably adds a few years. Not ready to slow
down, yet, though - I can keep up with much younger guys when biking,
hiking and windsurfing. Going vegan 10 years ago improved my health and
energy, and helped me lose 55 lbs. I live in Beaverton, Oregon, and build
in a 500 sqft shop I built in my back yard. Private pilot since 1996,
renting mostly C150s.
My project is what Mark and I hope will become the standard eGull - 28ft
wing span, flaps, as much light-weight fabric (Oratex) as possible, Zero
Motorcycle power train (40kW motor, controller, charger, 2 or 3 of
their smaller batteries). Pretty much what Mark demonstrated at Airventure
last year, except I won't be using the 170lb, 11kWh whopper battery (too
difficult to handle, too costly to replace), and I will use Zero's motor
pulley and belt, with a PSRU Mark is developing right now.
Mark has delivered the kit in 3 installments with his Honda CRX and
trailer. One time was on his way to Arlington. He charged me a fair price
for delivery, much better than if I had to have everything crated and
shipped commercially, or even if I had to pick it up from the factory. The
Zero components will be shipped directly from Zero.
I agree with Rahul: she's definitely a lady, with those smooth curves and
quiet strength. I had been thinking "Pixie Dust" or "Sprite". Any other
ideas out there?

Martin, we will be watching your electric Soaring Gull project and it will be a great proving ground for Mark’s continued electric conversions. I’m staying with a 503 now on my Gull, and will continue to smooth it out and personalize it for me as an E-LSA. I don’t mind the extra weight as it is not an ultralight and I also have a Private Pilot license and fly my friends C-150 after owning one myself for about 12 years, 15 years ago. So far I have the fastest 503 powered plane at our airport, and love blowing past Piper Cubs, Champs, Kolbs, Challengers, but not the slicker 912 powered $125K fiberglass European models, but for the money we have in these planes, who cares? One day I will go electric too.
