Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
My Gull 2000 has an aluminum 12 US gal. race car tank that measures 12"X12"X18". It is standing upright
held with metal straps against the back. I also carry a 2 gal jerry can on top of it when I go on longer flights because up here in Canada we are paying $2 a liter {about $5.50 a US Gal} for 100LL plus some places have a call out fee of $10.
I moved the filler to the top and drain to the bottom.

Yea… they look good… I looked through all of them myself a few days ago. Plus hundreds of other tanks on other sites. Decisions….decisions…..
What do you use for metering fuel quantity etc… of the tank? What sending unit/dash gauge etc….

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
Hi Mike et al,
I just came in from my hanger, and have good news. The only tubing blocking my access to the tank area is a diagonal tube. It has been previously cut and repaired with a tube sleeve over both ends where the tubing was cut. It is bolted together top and bottom with 2 thru bolts on each end.
So now all my access problems have been minimized... and I can concentrate on new tank mounting, and the removal of the old tank, and re-plumbing of the new. The old tank is apparently steel strapped to a bracket behind the existing tank out of sight, and about 12" above the tail boom just under the engine deck.
More Later,
John

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
I just use a piece of clear fuel line up the side with graduations marked on it for a fuel guage. To get a good look in flight I keep a little mirror handy.
The tank came with a fuel guage but it was made to lie flat so it was not accurate standing up like I have it.

I just added a photo of the tank in Mikeinthehats Gull 2000.

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
What I have onboard is very ingenious by the previous owners… Clear tubing is running from bottom of tank to the left front side, up the left angled vertical tubing that the wind screen is mounted to, then being attached to the tubing up to near the top of the cabin roof. Then it has markers showing fuel quantity. The top of the tubing is higher than the top of the tank.

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
The “high” end of that tubing could be routed right back into the top of the tank to avoid fumes.

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
To be honest… I have not noticed any odor when flying. But, when I install a new fuel tank… it’s coming out, and being replaced with a gauge.

Re: Fuel Tanks for LG2 & JT2
There is another, very accurate way to measure fuel. Just recently there
is a weight (of gas) based system that Mark is very interested in. He may
have come up with a way to retrofit this into existing systems. You guys
should contact him if interested. I have purchased the unit, but have not
have time to install it.
