Oh, melting the foam would be really bad, the epoxy would release too.
Most of the chrome powder does need a clear over it but they do make one now that is good by itself.
I did coat a 144 sq inch test panel with single coat chrome and I tried to error on the heavy side when coating. the panel wieghed .287 lbs. after coating it wieghed .295, this is prior to baking. This comes out to .008 lbs per sq ft. Though it's not an option to powder coat with the foam and epoxy in the wings, it does seem to be much lighter than paint. From what I'm told, paint would be closer to .08 per square ft. I'll flex test the panel this week and wiegh it after it's cured.

Re: Polished Wing
I think the powder coat would be a very cool product to put on all the other metal, and a very light silver car paint on the fiberglass and cloth. Add some stars and bars to it, and we could have a micro-warbird!

Re: Polished Wing
Hi all,
I'd like to mention the Cyclo-Orbital polisher again for people who want to polish their wing.

It's hard to describe the use of this tool. But, believe me, it's nothing like polishing with a rotary (they snag and burn the surface) or a single head orbiting polisher.
I first learned about it in a flying magazine article several years ago. But, I couldn't turn up a copy of it on the web unfortunately.
This tool will cut your polishing time and effort in a way you have to try to believe.
There's lots of youtube articles on it. Here's one that shows a guy polishing an Airstream trailer with Nuvite-S.

I can't recommend this tool highly enough.
